Our Mental Health Training

What is Poor Mental Health?

Poor mental health is common. Statistics show that 1 in 4 of us will experience poor mental health each year, but that also means that 3 in 4 of us are experiencing positive mental health each year. This perspective and message of hope is crucial to communicate to others in our teams and especially to those who need our support and encouragement as they navigate life’s challenges. Poor mental health has a negative impact on how we think, feel and behave. Poor mental health may cause distress or inability in social, work or family settings and impacts our daily living.

How Can My Organisation Benefit from Mental Health Training?

How an organisation looks after a person experiencing poor mental health is important, not just for the individual, but also for the colleagues around them. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to provide early, supportive help for someone at work when they felt things were challenging or overwhelming?

Talking openly about our mental health still isn’t easy for many of us, and some people aren’t able to do so, due to the judgement and stigma which still exists. Normalising conversations about mental health enables and encourages people to speak up, feel heard, be understood and not feel so alone. Peer support from colleagues is proven to work well and helps the supporters feel a sense of purpose and satisfaction too. Connections are created and positive relationships begin to grow.

In many cases professional help is not required but having a trusted colleague encouraging a member of staff to use the Employee Assistance Programme when required, is often the tipping point for someone finding the help they need in timely manner. Early interventions provide better outcomes.

Training people to support their colleagues isn’t rocket science, but your people deserve training from someone who is confident, compassionate and patient enough to empower people to feel confident to approach and competent in supporting others when they need it most.

Andy Elwood is that person: 98% of Andy’s learners rate him 10/10 as an instructor and 97% recommend his training. He has been accredited by MHFA England to deliver their training since 2019.
